Corporate Giving

Corporate Sponsorship

The Hawai`i Cultural Foundation provides corporations with the unique opportunity to support the cultural arts of Hawai`i and other Pacific Islands within a diverse and multicultural community. Through HCF’s varied programming, corporations can make a significant impact in helping to strengthen our communities.

Featured Sponsorship Opportunity-
PACIFIKA: New York Hawaiian Film Festival

The only film festival of its kind, Pacifika exhibits the rich cultural heritage of Hawai`i and the Pacific Islands preserved through the media arts. Pacifika provides a platform for film and video media that explores questions of history, human rights, and identity of Hawaiian and other Pacific Island peoples.
It is only through the generous kokua (support) of our corporate sponsors that HCF is able to underwrite nearly $60,000 of costs associated with producing this festival, including theater rental, promotional posters and brochures, guest artist fees, and insurance. Past sponsors have included Quiksilver, Mountain Apple Company, Hawai`i Visitors Bureau, Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and The Hawai`i Magazine.

Audience

Pacifika appeals to a diverse audience of current and former Hawai`i residents, regular visitors to the islands, and the broader New York community with a general interest in Hawai`i. Furthermore, through Pacifika, HCF aims to serve its growing Pacific Islander population. In fact, as reported in the 2000 Census, New York City has over 19,000 people with Pacific Islander heritage-making New York, the city with the second largest Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander population of the largest cities in the country.

– HCF anticipates reaching over 20,000 people in the New York tri-state region through brochure mailings, advertising, media events, promotional material dissemination at upcoming HCF-sponsored activities.

– The event attracts over 3,000 participants from the New York metropolitan area (NY, NJ, and CT) as well as Maryland, Washington D.C., Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Hawai`i and California.

– Media coverage for the event has spanned both New York and national media including Fox News, Honolulu Advertiser, Honolulu Star Bulletin, TimeOut NY, New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and NBC Jeffrey Lyons’ Morning Show.

– HCF collaborates with other New York cultural institutions including the Asian American Arts Alliance, American Indian Community House, Smithsonian National Museum of American Indian, New York University Film School, among others to increase its outreach to new audiences.

– HCF website reaches a larger internet community with over 50,000 hits per year and inquires from all parts of the country.

Other Sponsorship Opportunities

General Annual Fund

In order to best serve the community, HCF offers resources and events to the public free of charge. HCF relies on the generous support of donations to the General Operating Fund to implement these programs. Donations typically support the cost of public lectures, community meetings, and general expenses associated with operating the organization such as utilities, rent and office expenses.

Scholarship Fund

HCF offers scholarships for people of Pacific Island ancestry and financial need to attend educational workshops and classes. These scholarships are particularly important for those who would otherwise be unable to explore their heritage.

Arts-in-Education Fund

HCF provides opportunities for children to learn about the rich cultural heritage of Hawai`i. Artists visit schools within the New York tri-state area to share the history of Hawai`i, and toconduct workshops in hula, music, and cultural arts.

Research Fund

To better understand the Hawaiian and Pacific Islander diaspora, HCF conducts qualitative and quantitative research to provide demographics on this population residing on the continental United States: to highlight ways in which these cultures thrive and survive: to identify challenges faced in perpetuating the culture, and to make recommendations for building community through arts and culture.

Technology Fund

Technology plays a significant role in HCF’s outreach and communication efforts to provide access to Hawaiian cultural resources. HCF’s website is an important marketing and audience development tool, as well as a resource for Hawai`i news and information. Technology maintenance and upgrades are essential for keeping up with the pace of business, thus creating a “virtual” office and communications center vital to HCF’s operations, while enabling HCF to maintain a network that bridges the East Coast and Hawai`i.
