Since 1986, Manu Boyd has led Ho‘okena, an award-winning
Hawaiian musical ensemble with eight recordings to-date. In
1978, he became a student of Kumu Hula Robert Cazimero and
Halau Na Kamalei, and in 1995, he graduated through traditional
'uniki / 'ailolo rites as a kumu hula (hula master). Boyd
started his own hula school, Halau o ke ‘A‘ali‘i
Kü Makani, in 1997 and they recently placed well in their
debut at the Merrie Monarch hula competition in Hilo. Boyd’s
career has focused on contemporary Hawaiian issues as well
as history, culture and the arts. |
