In celebration of Hawai`i’s traditional musical genre, the Hawai`i Cultural Foundation presents concerts of contemporary and traditional Hawaiian music by renowned performing artists. Showcasing Hawai`i`s ki ho`alu (slack key) guitar masters, the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival with musicians, such as Keola Beamer, Led Kaapana, George Kahumoku, and Cyril Pahinui, has returned annually to the New York concert stage as an anticipated occasion for the New York City `Ohana to come together. HCF has also featured the music of more contemporary Hawaiian recording artists such as HAPA. In conjunction with these performances, HCF has offered workshops with visiting artists in ukulele, Hawaiian slack key guitar and steel guitar to provide opportunities for the HCF community to learn and perpetuate this Hawaiian musical tradition in the New York region.
