In May 2003, the Hawai`i Cultural Foundation launched
the First Annual Pacifika:
New York Hawaiian Film Festival to exhibit the
rich cultural heritage of Hawai`i and the Pacific Islands
preserved through the media arts. In collaboration with the
NYU Department of Film and Television, this festival presented
film and video media that explore questions of history, human
rights, and identity of Hawaiian and other Pacific Island
peoples, and celebrate the many remarkable accomplishments
of indigenous film and video artists from Hawai`i and other
Pacific Islands by introducing their work to New York audiences
