Vicky Holt Takamine is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools and received her BA & MA in Dance Ethnology from the University of Hawai’i. Vicky is the founder and kumu hula (master teacher) of Pua Ali`i `Ilima, a school of traditional Hawaiian dance. In addition, she teaches hula at UH Manoa and Leeward Community College. She co-founded `Ilio`ulaokalani, a coalition of traditional practitioners committed to protecting their Hawaiian customs and traditions. She is the po`o (president) and inspirational leader of this organization. She is also the co-founder and president of KAHEA: The Hawaiian Environmental Alliance, a coalition of Hawaiian and Environmental organizations committed to protecting the natural and cultural environment of Hawai’i. She is also the co-founder and president for Papa Laua’e O Makana on Kaua’i Island and co-founder and Executive Director for PA’I Foundation on O’ahu Island.
